The Project
RAM Building Consultancy was tasked with addressing the poor state of the school's toilets, which suffered from inadequate ventilation, corroded pipework, and privacy issues, all of which impacted the students' well-being and safety.
The Challenges
The toilets were in dire need of repair, with poor ventilation causing damp conditions and corroded pipework. Additionally, dead legs in the pipework and faulty hot water boilers created a high risk of Legionella, while a lack of privacy in the cubicles led to bullying incidents. These issues posed serious health, safety, and safeguarding risks for the school.
The Solution
RAM conducted a detailed measured and condition survey of the affected areas and developed a technical design, submitting a comprehensive Condition Improvement Fund (CIF) bid for the 2020/21 round of funding. The proposed solution included replacing all sanitaryware with hygienic, robust, and tamper-proof fittings, and installing new hot water boilers to mitigate the Legionella risk. We managed the entire project from initial design and specification, through tendering, to health and safety oversight, ensuring the work was completed to high standards.
The Results
RAM successfully secured £150k in funding for the project. The construction phase was completed on time, within budget, and met the school's expectations. The new facilities addressed the previous health and safety concerns, providing a safer and more comfortable environment for the students.
