The Project
RAM Building Consultancy was approached by a school facing serious operational challenges due to non-functional gas and water supplies in the science block. With seven classrooms, only two had functional water and gas, severely limiting the school’s ability to conduct lessons safely and effectively.
The Challenges
The lack of compliance with water and gas services presented significant health, safety, and safeguarding risks, particularly with gas taps located against back walls, leaving students with their backs to the teacher. The school needed a complete overhaul to bring the science block up to compliance and ensure safe, functional classrooms for students and teachers.
The Solution
RAM developed a comprehensive Health & Safety compliance bid through the Condition Improvement Fund (CIF) via the ESFA. The project focused on gaining legislative compliance for water and gas services in the science block. This included a full refit of fixtures, furniture, and equipment in all seven classrooms, as well as the preparation room. The project was fully tendered and programmed to ensure minimal disruption during the works.
The Results
After securing funding, the project required swift execution to ensure the science labs were operational by the start of the summer term. With the expertise of our in-house mechanical services engineer, the works were designed, instructed, and completed within the six-week summer holiday, ensuring the school could return to full functionality with modern, compliant facilities.
Services used:
RAM’s Contract Administration service played a crucial role in the successful execution of this project. By managing the bid process, coordinating with contractors, and overseeing the timeline, RAM ensured that the refit was completed on time, meeting all safety and compliance requirements. This ensured the science block was fully operational by the beginning of the new term, with no disruption to the school’s educational schedule.
