The Project
RAM Building Consultancy was commissioned to conduct building condition surveys across a portfolio of seven schools within an academy trust. The goal was to help the trust identify priorities for utilizing the Department of Education’s condition allocation funding, ensuring the schools remained compliant and well-maintained.
The Challenges
The academy trust needed a thorough assessment of their estate’s condition to ensure compliance with legislative standards and identify critical areas that required attention. With seven schools in the portfolio, the task involved not only assessing the building fabric and services but also prioritizing improvements within a five-year budgetary plan.
The Solution
RAM performed detailed building condition surveys across all schools, reviewing key compliance areas and grading the condition and priority of all major building and service elements. We produced a comprehensive report for each school, outlining recommended works and associated budgets for a five-year period. Additionally, structural and geotechnical surveys were carried out on one site, leading to the development of a full remedial specification for structural improvements, which was then tendered.
The Results
The academy trust received a complete set of condition surveys and budgetary plans that allowed them to allocate their School Condition Allocation funding effectively. The structural improvements were successfully implemented, and RAM continues to support the trust with ongoing compliance and condition projects, including the expansion of classroom facilities.
