Primark Testing Diagnostic Services

SUMMARY:

Large Primark store with multiple leaks in to the storeroom area with risk to stock, as well as risk to the office area with electrical equipment.

THE PROBLEM:

The Storeroom was dripping from the steel beams with the leak ongoing for several years, but not active prior to testing. The ladies changing rooms had staining present on the ceiling tiles, with leaks appearing a couple of hours after heavy rainfall.

THE METHOD:

Utilising a multitude of testing methods at their disposal, the RAM engineers tested the membrane of the roof electronically and identified defects causing the problems. They also used simulated rainfall testing and flood testing to check other areas.

  • Two stage outlet test to RWO – spigot and pipe red dye at interface – No result
  • Electronic Leak Detection (ELD®) to section of single ply and 5 Lap defects identified
  • Flow test to identified defects – No result
  • Spray test to cable entry point. Leak duplicated – Water could be seen tracking down pipes internally on first floor

THE SOLUTION:

After RAM had identified a failure within the rainwater system pipework, including the spigot, we recommended to the client that remedial works should be undertaken by a specialist plumbing contractor.
