St Pancras International Rainfall Simulation

SUMMARY:

The historic arched roof at St Pancras International station had been suffering with ongoing leaks onto the concourse.

THE PROBLEM:

Leaks onto the concourse at the top of the escalators and by the ticket barriers were causing a slip hazard and inconvenience to passengers. Attempts had already been made to rectify the problem but some stubborn leaks remained to be traced.

THE METHOD:

One the RAM engineers attending had measured out the roof leaks and plotted their position, it became apparent the cause was a stairwell running over the historic barrel vault roof. By testing all the stanchions for the stairs and handrails individually they were able to identify the problems and leave them marked up for easy identification when handed over for rectification.

THE SOLUTION:

The individual leaking stanchions were repaired, due to them all being tested and identified prior to the repairs, only the required works were carried out saving the client time and money.
