The Thomas Alleyne Academy Contract Administration

PROJECT VALUE:

£825,000.00

CLIENT:

LOCATION:

Stevenage

CONTRACTOR:

BJC Property Services

CHALLENGE:

The school operations were seriously compromised due to the lack of functional gas and water supplies to the classrooms, due to various compliance issues. The science block is made up of seven classrooms, of which only two had water and gas. All gas taps in operation were running against back walls so were a health, safety and safeguarding risk as the pupils all had their backs to the teacher, with teaching views severely compromised.

SOLUTION:

The production of a H&S compliance, Condition Improvement Funding Bid, via the ESFA. The project applied was to gain legislation compliance on Water and Gas Services within the Science Block, including the full refit of all fixture, furniture, and equipment to the 7 classrooms and preparation room.

The scheme was fully tendered and programmed as part of the bid process, and as a result the scheme was completed with minimal disruption by the contractor.

RESULT:

Following the funding announcement, it was vital to commence works to ensure the science labs were in full operation by the start of the summer term. This meant that quick planning and design development was required, by our in-house mechanical services engineer. As a result, the works were instructed, started and completed all within the 6-week summer holiday period.
